So the car has the 3.1, 160kms, drivers window not working, but the digital dash is intermittent. Car is 500.00. Anymore and I'd steer clear. Will probably buy it tomorrow. Since the dash is intermittent, I'm hoping it might be a wiring connection issue or bad fuse grounding etc. Read that somewhere on the internet.

Thanks! Tahoe mileage is making me insane; sold the K Car and Appliance and now need something better on gas. Missed an 86 Golf the other day, maybe not the worst thing to happen.

TLDR: Any hope for a cheap fix on an intermittent digital dash on this car.

my brother had a 1992 Cutlass Supreme with the digital cluster and it was a hell of a car... went to North Carolina from New York three or four times, but unfortunately, the cluster would come and go. I had an 88 Cavalier RS with a digital cluster as well... I do know this; people that smoked in these cars seemed to have the most problems (and this went for the digital clusters in the Beretta's, Ford Thunderbirds, Ford Probes, etc.). What seemed to work for Jason's Cutlass was to pull the cluster out and clean the main lead (you'll see it, a big lead going into the cluster) with an electrical contact cleaner. This sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. If the panel is shot, good luck finding a replacement as these cars have been crusher bait for years now and I am not sure an analog cluster will fit in the digital's place.

In high school I worked at a cheapo car lot. He loved 80's 300zx's. Always pickin em up. Cheap and fun back then. Had those damned digi dashes. My quick fix? Pull the cluster forward and soak it in brake cleaner. Usually did the trick. At least long enough to sell it

Dude they were awful. But I was 16 and pulling a grand a week under the table in the mid90's after school. On the positive the prices were about right.

Well, this chariot was sweet when it left the factory. The digital dash was in off mode, and didn't light up for the test drive. The odo is not viewable when the dash is out, so no ghetto gas gauge. The drivers seat was bent back, semi reclined. If I can't get comfortable in a car, unlikely to buy it. Plus other small stuff added up. Any screw driver would open the trunk...

Of course it's a 500.00 car, and worth it to the right person. Looked at another Golf, the shop couldn't get it running right. Any decent cheap cars here sell within an hour or so. So much junk. I'm liking the Cutlass/Century though. Good turning radius for a midsize, good engine if the 3.1. This one felt tight with 160K on it. Could be just the right balance between highway and city car.

The collective knowledge and stories on here are quite amazing.

I tell my northern friends this all the time, you want a cheap rust free car it's worth a plane ticket to the south and a little road trip home. You will always come out ahead.

the Cutlass Supreme is what they call a W-body in GM-speak... its the same underneath as a Chevy Lumina/Impala, Pontiac Grand Prix, and Buick Century/Regal. In my opinion, the Cutlass and Lumina were the better assembled of the foursome. I have been asking around on the W-body forum and from what I have gathered, if you can find a Cutlass with the analog dash, it will swap with the digital one. Who knew? The caveat being they have to be the same year.

I've been paid to do that a few times now- the nicest was driving a '72 Karmann Ghia convertible back from Orlando.
