.. in two states after last night.

What are your thoughts on this? What is your assumption on how this will go for Colorado and Washington? Is this a new trend in America? I'm interested in hearing what y'all have to say...

I haven't looked into Washington and Colorado's measures, but here in Oregon, the bill for legalization included a regulatory commission and language to suggest monopolization and corruption surrounding production of the plant—much akin to the tobacco industry. It's for that reason that Oregon voted it down, I think.

Personally, I thought that while those claims were likely legitimate, it still sounded better than the current alternative.

Some municipalities voted for legalization, too! Regardless, this will certainly establish a national precedence, as did the early state-wide anti-prohibition laws.

no lie i teared up when i heard this today.
i am moving to colorado probably after new year.
i think this is the end of prohibition (eventually) and honestly one of the best days in my life. the freedom to the pursuit of happiness is what this country is all about.

i see a mass exodus coming

Completely agree. This is the beginning of the end.

In the short term, I see federal lawsuits against CO/WA over their marijuana laws. If the feds do nothing, more states will legalize after they see the wheels to the bus don't fall off if the whole state is high. And the paper/tobacco industry can't have that...can they?

Its been the talk lately around here. No one is saying anything about Obama or any local things that were passed, just that two states legalized cannabis. I've already heard multiple people discussing moving to Colorado. I'm not exactly jumping on that band wagon, but hell, if its successful, I wouldn't mind moving to either state in a few years. But by then, who knows, a national campaign to legalize or decriminalize might be going. I truly hope they handle it well in Colorado and Washington. They kind of are the "experiment" at this point for a lot of people. If its an utter failure, the movement as a whole will be set back 5-10 years. If its a majority success, then it will be a great example to show anyone who questions legalization. So in the short, we will have to wait and see.

I'm also concerned about "marijuana tourism". Is 90% of the college kids going to turn either state into the new spring break spot or will it be the new Amsterdam? That could be viewed as a negative thing in the eyes of critics. It really depends on how its all set up and put into action after the dust settles.
