Not sure if yous have seen this yet, but it seems to be the ultimate light painting tool. It's taking all of my willpower to NOT buy this thing. Troy Pavia from Lost America has been using this (with great success) for a little while now, and it's got me super jealous.
Sure $500 is a LOT for a flashlight, but each one of my flashes + RF trigger combos costs about $650, and I own 4. Seriously tempted to sell one and pick up this guy. What are your thoughts??

That looks pretty cool! I can see how that would be right up Troy's alley, what with the colours and all. If I was more into shooting with bright colours (I had my brief foray) I'd probably be scraping my pennies together right now. I mean, even though it probably isn't the right kind of light for the way I shoot, at all, I'm still kind of drooling over it.

Agreed over the cost - it's not that different to a flash. However, you can get a few high-powered LED lights for that price, too. For coloured lighting, though, hell yeah!

(I also really love that you can put RGB values into that thing to set the colour - consistency!)

...

totally not eyeing this off for xmas.

OHHH! Do want. To bad it's miles outside of my flashlight budget.

Just think of what Troy has done for 20 years with simple gelled maglites. Personally the first time I saw this light, I thought it was a joke!

it is a little excessive....but, at the same time, it's not wildly unreasonable either. For a low-volume relatively custom electronic device, the price really isnt so bad. The convenience factor of not having to fumble around with gels in the dark is a big seller too. Of course it's possible to recreate everything this does using cheap gels and simple flashlights, but the same could be said about film vs digital. Convenience and innovation has got to be worth something.

I think I'm going to splurge and buy it as a totally selfish x-mas present
