Filed my taxes on 1/30 everything went smooth no issues. On 2/01 I get a email stating, "the IRS is not accepting tax returns with form 8863 (Education Credits) until mid February. Well that sucks, but okay. On 2/14 I get a email "IRS accepted your federal tax return, and state tax return" awesome! The state return couldn't be filed until the fed one was filed apparently. So everything is looking good now!
I receive my state return in about a week and expect the fed one to come in a week or two. Today I checked my status online via IRS.gov only to find it has changed from "return received" and "refund approved" pending the last step "refund sent" to the following status "your tax return is still being processed" seemed odd so though I'd investigate. I filed my dads taxes last week Sunday 2/24, I check his status, and the IRS has already mailed him a check on 3/05. The fuck!
So I google my status and find the information below. Seems HRBlock fucked over a ton of people, including myself, so who knows when I'll get my refund. Pissed off yeah kinda.
https://www.facebo.../10151286596875563Thousands of pissed off taxpayers are receiving letters from the IRS informing them their returns are now under further review. The majority of these letters are related to Form 8863 (Education Credits). In previous years, H&R Block has transmitted a “Y” for Yes and a blank for No for questions 22-26 on Form 8863. The IRS no longer accepts this format leading these returns to be reviewed further, but without delaying the estimated 21-day refund cycle. Once we learned of this change, we worked to comply with the new IRS process and now are transmitting an “N” for a No answer.
Why did I receive a letter saying my return was under further review?
This year, the IRS changed the way it processes and accepts answers to some ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ questions on Form 8863 as transmitted by H&R Block and other tax preparers. Once we learned of this IRS change, we worked to comply with the new IRS process.
Some taxpayers may receive a CP05 letter saying the return is under review. The IRS has stated that they still intend to process your return within the 21 day refund cycle goal, unless additional information is required. If you receive a CP05 letter, no action is required on your part.
