Sounds similar to ours. Got our turbo'd V70 (a 98) off the neighbors for $700 after they were hit coming out of a parking lot. Since they live hand-to-mouth with two kids, they couldn't afford the downtime without a vehicle nor to pay to have it fixed. My boyfriend went over to talk to them, and having just gotten his tax return, offered double what the junkyard was going to give them... more than enough to cover the car they already had lined up.
$100 for some control arms and suspension parts, $30 for a junkyard wheel, and $30 for a new fender and it was back on the road.
Love this car. Other than needing some routine maintenance (much of their stuff was cheap fixes or rigged to save money) and the fact they have two younger kids (the interior is kinda hit), it runs beautifully. 211k on the clock and runs great. Only wish it were a stick shift, but it's a fun car.
