Most likely the latter. It looked like someone was working on the white & burgundy house (locked doors, tool/gloves/new windows lying around, hauling truck, etc) when I was out there a month before you. I'm curious as to why they're even attempting salvage efforts.

Ok so HUGE update returned to this location today . there was life in the town.
Talked to the one farmer lives a mile over turns out he owns the house on the north end of main st. The building with the 2 car garage turns out its the towns former railway station .
He is pushing hard to get his property sustainable. They are trying to lure people to the town who are interested in a quiter lifestyle. he is installing his own septic . on the north end there are new power lines also .
They have been having a lot of problems with vandalism turns out there are cameras mounted around town.
For those who want to visit the people we met were friendly just took the direct approach and made no attempt to be sneaky.
