Meet Charlie who was found on the side of the highway

My Fiance found this guy running down the highway a few months ago he was in pretty rough shape. After spending lots of time trying to find his owner unsuccessfully, we'd just adopted him. Several neighbors have said they saw him eating dead animals along the road even a month before we found him.
After talking with other neighbors we found out he'd been given to a person who lives very close to us by friends that were moving and couldn't take him.
The person was a younger guy and not very responsible and would walk him with no leash. When he'd run off and not come back the guy would just go home leaving him to wander along the river and highway we live next to.

The neighbors had found him several times and asked the kid to take him back and he didn't just leaving him to fend for himself. We think he knew all along that we had the dog but didn't want take responsibility for him. He has even seen us with the dog and acted like he didn't recognize us or the dog. We didn't find out he had been the owner until the dog had been with us over 2 months.

He had dermatitis and his hair was matted so bad we had to completely shave him. He's also been on a healthy dose of wormers and good food due to his roadkill diet and he was very skittish scared of anyone raising a hand or their voice around him.

But the good news is he has the best most caring personality ever. He is also very good in the house with only a couple minor accidents in the time we've had him. He gets along good with our 2 shepherds and is already fixed. Hopefully he can learn some commands and learn to be a trusting dog again.

Good lookin' doggie. Good for you in helping him out in a time of need.

I've got 6 rescues, we have a tough time turning away a furry face that needs a home.....

Best of luck. From personal experience, rescuing an animal can have its own challenges and is also very rewarding. Nice dog.

Wow sorry I hadn't checked this for awhile. Charlie is doing great he's a very nice dog and has been great in the house. He's now allowed to go off leash outside and run around with my other dogs. He looks much better too now that his hair has grown back and he's at a healthy weight.

He only has one issue and its wierd one I've never really come across. He's fine with people, kids, other dogs and in about every situation we've had him in unless he falls asleep. When something startles him or touches him if he's asleep he wakes up fighting mad. He will bite and growl and generally freak out for just a few seconds until he fully wakes up and realizes than everything is fine and nothing is "getting" him. We just make sure that no one bothers him if he's crashed out and we just call to him to wake him up before petting him or bumping him if he's sleeping on the floor. I suppose some of it comes from being mistreated and living out on his own for so long. It's more of instinct to protect himself than aggression or anything like that because as soon as he fully wakes up you can tell that he knows he was in the wrong and he goes right back to wagging his tail and being happy.

Anyways we're really happy with him and he's completely attached to my fiancé and she is to him as well. He definitely remembers that she is the one who rescued him.

Here's a few more recent pictures.

I'm glad to hear he's found a good home, and he looks alot healthier in his recent pics. Odd about how he wakes up... I've never heard of an issue like that, but who knows what he's been though in his past.

Anyways, he's an absolutely beautiful dog... and gorgeous eyes!

Exactly and I love the third picture. Poppy will often do that.

Well done on the rescue Uzi. Charlie is a beautiful dog and I see you and your fiancée have done very well in giving him a great home.

Very handsome animal. He probably got investigated by other animals while sleeping in the woods when he was out and alone. Probably happened a lot to him. Glad he's got a good home, and good on you for saving him......
