My first exploration was a simple house. I've driven by it many times and one night me and some friends were sitting around bored and decided, "lets go explore that house."

We were poorly organized to say the least and I'm amazed we didn't get caught. The house was along a long road with no parking. So my friend had the genius idea to just park right in the houses driveway. Did I forget to mention it is the same driveway state troopers like to sit in to speed trap people. The entire time i was nervous a cop would pull up, see our cars, and bust us. However once we fought through the overgrown bushes and got in the house I was hooked. It was so cool to me just seeing what happens to a place when people leave.

I've been exploring ever since. Bigger and better locations and learning more every time.

My first location was an abandoned nursing home.I got very curious one night and decided to explore it with some friends. We found all kinds of decaying treasures inside. The best discovery by far was the old cherry red mustang in the basement.Looked like someone was living in it.Since that time I have explored any and all buildings/structures I can get into...

Mine were these 2 old houses beside a greenbelt wash.. Probably built in the 20's-30's.. Where I live that's pretty old.. Right next to the property was a storm drain that emptied into the wash.. Ended up exploring that too.. well.. at least the first 2-3 miles of it..

City tore down the houses years ago. put up a little park.. But I still think of taking another run down that storm drain....

Kept poking around but really didn't do much exploring around here at least until I found this site.. Saw the Gila Memorial Airport in the public database & went out to practice my photography skills.. Was great.. looks like I'm hooked again!

Near where I live there used to be an elementary school. Only now there aren't any kids in my neighbourhood, so they decided to turn it into a geriatrics place (where old people go to die). They needed to demolish the thing first. Partway through the demolition, my buddy and I decided we wanted to hop the fence and go in.
It hadn't gotten all that far through the demolition, it was mostly just the ceiling tiles getting taken out and some of the piping and all that torn out, so we figured it was probably safe enough. It was actually pretty neat, especially seeing all of the parts of school that students never go into like all of the server closets and janitorial places, and the girls changeroom. It was basically just a plain old school still, not much over the top, but we thought it was pretty neat.
Anyways, as we were about to leave, there was an old lady and her husband who saw us and then shouted at us. We promptly turned around ran to the otherside of the school, and as we hopped the fence, my mother happened to pass by the school on her daily walk, which she decided to deviate from her normal path because she wanted to meet a friend for coffee.
My mum was not overly pleased, though its not like she flipped shit or anything, she's pretty chill about it.

It was an abandoned state housing duplex in the small town I grew up in. It was at the end of the street where my Uncle lived, and all the kids called it the haunted house. I was fascinated with it.

When I was about 8 I was riding past on my BMX and decided I should go and try the front door. Turns out it was unlocked and I spent about an hour snooping around. There was a trap door in the laundry floor that I pulled open with grandiose dreams of some sort of huge basement or tunnel system, but it was just a tiny crawl space about 2 feet deep. So disappointing.

My brother and I started taking our friends to show them around the haunted house, someone must have noticed because one day the door was just locked.

Two years ago, I became interested in the history of the buildings at my university. Through my research, I discovered that one of the buildings had an abandoned swimming pool/natatorium in the basement. As soon as I figured this out, I had to go see it, especially since there are plans to renovate the building and the pool will likely be removed during the renovation. When I finally found it, I also found that people had started using the offices across the hallway. I didn't think anyone saw me, so I continued into the natatorium. The pool itself was covered with graffiti and surrounded by a chain-link fence. The rest of the room seemed to be used for storage by the people in the offices. The bleachers were filled with cardboard boxes containing books, blueprints and various other objects. Bookcases had also been set up along the far wall. I took some pictures and left before anyone figured out where I was but the experience hooked me.

Just a very small house. For a while I'd been interested in abandoned places, just wondering what they looked like inside. Then, one day, I decided to go ahead and ride my bike to one. Not much else to it, but that place just got me hooked.

I was really little during my first explore. I'm not sure how old, maybe 6. There was a firehouse down the street from our house; a gravel driveway led to a dirt parking lot behind it. Here I found a coal chute. I determined that it would let me slide into the cellar, and mulled the matter over for a few days. Suppose I couldn't reach the chute from inside the cellar? I could see the pile of coal inside, and one day I decided it was high enough, so in I went. The coal pieces had flat sides that were shiny. Other than that it was kind of a letdown. When I got home my mother was astounded at how dirty I was.

Back when I was maybe, 7 or 8, my grandpa took me with him to go through the school he went to as a kid. They were gonna knock it down or something. So pop wanted to go look through it one last time and he took me along.

Sparked something in me that never really went away. Shortly after that I got into the old "haunted" gym down the road from his house. I was sold after that. Any old, abandoned, or cool looking place, I wanted to see it.

Been 20 years and I still have a brick from the demolition of pop's school. Cedar Grove or some such name.

Used to go bowling at a certain bowling alley as a kid. I believe it was the spring of 2008 that some unusually heavy snow hit the area, and the roof of the bowling alley collapsed partially due to the weight of the melting snow.

It sat there for a couple of years locked up tight, but I went by it one day and saw that they had begun tearing it down. I climbed over the debris in gym shorts and tennis shoes and explored what was left.

Now the land is a bank, wings restaurant, and medical offices.

Oh good, my slow clap processor made it into this thing.

I spent a year abroad in Israel. Right next to my house was an abandoned hotel. I kept coming back and finding new rooms each time. Plus it was the practicing ground of a famous Israeli graffiti artist named "jack". I got to see all his ideas practiced and drawn out before they would be actually sprayed onto public surfaces.

The second and third last pictures reminded me of spiderman 3, the scene where venom is trapped by spider man in a circle of rebar.

A pillar is going to be erected there.
The pillar could may that height at to which the rebar ends,
or it may be welded with more rebar to extend its height.

True. It could be the steel part of the "steel-reinforced concrete" they use for support columns.

That is interesting what you did (photographing a location before it's complete). Last night I too found myself exploring a building that is being built. Have to say though, it was kind of boring because I was naked, but it didn't look as promising as your set. Maybe further along into the project I'll snap some good photos, just not right now.

I've always been the adventurous type.

When I was a child, I wanted to be an explorer, finding hidden places, searching for new things, undiscovered glories of the past...But alas, it seemed like a child's pipe dream.

I was told throughout my life that there was no place left to explore, that the world had seen it's share of wonders, that the mundane world was as good as it was going to get, adventures could only be found in works of fiction...

Until recently.

Not too long ago, my friend challenged me to find a rooftop location and take a picture from it.

I can still remember how it felt when I finally found the place after searching around...The sense of intense satisfaction, the feeling of the cool wind on my face, the empowerment, and the spectacular view.

I took it all in for a while, realizing that this was worth the 16 flights of steps.

So, I found a new hobby and I've been looking for new adventures ever since.
