Fair warning for those in the Sharonville area, there's been a nasty rash of break-ins lately, esp at the hotels off Sharon Rd.

Last weekend while down to visit Ottowolf, our car got broken into at the La Quinta Inn. Nothing was really in sight, and they left my bf's scanner tool and a few other things alone, but they did grab a Makita drill case that was full of sockets and screwdrivers. The cops said they are mainly going for construction related tools, so they were probably somewhat disappointed to learn it was all mechanic's tools.

We've stayed at this hotel 5 times now without incident, so it's not like we're in the ghetto.

They smashed out our rear driver's side window and punched out the driver's side door lock. They attempted to get into Otto's car by punching the passenger side door locks. Never made entry into his car, we can only assume something scared them off. Kinda wishing they had attempted his car first, his alarm would have woken up everyone surrounding that area.

Fortunately there was a near-identical Volvo at a local bone yard so we could fix the car up without driving 3 hours north windowless. Still, it sucks having to do all this on our vacation... and dealing with broken glass and a wet interior to boot.

Just thought I'd give a heads up to you guys if you are in that area, don't leave anything in your cars and make sure the are locked and parked in view. No idea if these guys have been caught yet. We were told we'd get a call if they were.

Damn I'm sorry that happened. My Aunt lives pretty much right around the corner from the La Quinta and has never really had any issues. Hotels are kinda a goldmine, especially in an age where many tourists will have a satnav, ipod, or something in that vein worth at least $150 in the car. You probably weren't the only one they hit that day.

Sharonville's a great little neighborhood, kinda like a little small town surrounded by industrial parks, but some of the areas around it really suck. Probably some douchebags from Reading preying on tourists. It's only an exit south. Practically walking distance. Also didn't help that Volvos are nice as fuck.

After a break-in in Atlanta (nothing in sight, but betting the out-of-state plates didn't help our cause), we started stripping the vehicles of electronics before going into our hotel. It is a nice area for sure. First time down we stayed at the Baymont... what a dive!

I don't think it helped either that we were parking in view of our room... but sort of away from other cars. Two nice, modded cars (Otto has a WRX) out in a hotel parking lot, one with MI plates. I'm sure it was a car thief's wet dream.

We lucked out with U Pull N Pay having 2 V70s in the lot, including one that was nearly a twin, cosmetically to ours. We finally have a matching fender!

This won't discourage us from coming down again, just means taking a few more precautions, parking closer to the building, and/or leaving our car at Otto's instead.

Cop said they normally patrol the lots, but with all the rain, there were a TON of accidents on 75/275 that night.
