They hold value extremely well and ride like a body on frame truck. Because they are a truck first, "car" second.

It's just a jeep thing, you wouldn't understand ;)

The Liberty was actually supposed to be sold alongside the Cherokee. However, that Liberty was totally different than what you see today. Instead, you get the KJ, which is based upon a freak out from the DalmlerChrysler CEO who thought the future of SUVs was to be cute.

If memory serves correct, didn't the first of the "new" diesel Jeeps have issues? Forget what the issues are, I just vaguely remember reading about it in news feeds and watching the Car & Driver TV Shows (Flame away if you must). If the issues have been resolved, I wouldn't mind going to a diesel Jeep. As I have had success with Jeep's in the past.

It's a VM diesel; they are pretty easy going. I know of someone who took the Diesel from a Liberty and put it in a Commander since they use the same transmission and wiring harness. Also changed out computer.

As a KJ owner, I resemble that remark. Besides the timing belt losing its teeth, I've not had any issues with mine, and it's got 93k on it. I got rear-ended by a Tahoe a few months ago and you can't even notice I got hit. The Tahoe was fucked up pretty bad though, and not drivable. I guess they've had issues with the automatic transmissions, but I have the 6-speed manual and it's been fine.
