fuck that... BMW or nothing

I used to be Mr. BMW. Loved the things, owned a bunch of them, and had a huge following of local BMW owners who needed someone to work on their car in a small town.

I just don't like new Bimmers. They aren't that great, they really aren't that quick, they're too quiet... they've just lost the soul that they used to have. Sure, my E30s were fucking horrible cars, but they were one of the most fun cars you could own in that price range, they sounded absolutely sexual, and they didn't feel like a Camry inside. I took the apprentice out for a rip in a newer 330i the other day, and we were both completely unimpressed by it. It drove well and stuff, but it didn't feel like a BMW should.

I have a few customers with modern BMWs, and I can honestly say they don't do a thing for me.

And their SUV things need to all be crushed. Especially that X6 abortion that looks like an Accord Crosswhatever.

I just feel that this

Has 25 times the class and style that this has.

Having said that, I wouldn't be buying either... but that's just how I feel about newer BMWs.

I have an e46, with 260k miles on it and it's been / is a fabulous car. We we were lookin at buying an 05-06 x5 now but with only my income (wife's a full time med student) I can't really justify a car payment at the moment I don't think. And plus a lot of them I was looking at had the 4.4 I'm not quite sure how I feel about anything but in an I6 in one. (though they made them too) I want to be able to haul a boat or anything with the 6cyl.

i never really used to give a shit about BMW's until I worked for Bond Auto over in Burlington VT. The junior manager had a 2003 or so M3 and he took me for a ride up I-89 in it... motherfucker what a car. I tend to like American cars only, but this thing was a four-wheeled homicidal maniac. And the sounds it made when you were flogging on it were just... something right out of a videogame.

You forget of course the biggest problem with BMW these days, their drivers. Though I've often lusted after a few (notably a 3.0l CS) I could never stand the shame of telling someone I owned 'a BMW'. Not a joke. If ever there was a car that attracted more than the average share of idiot, ignorant, self-entitled, arrogant, arsehole drivers, it has to be BMW.

There's even a whole series of BMW indicator-not-using, traveling-too-fast, etc, jokes. In German! It seems to start with their lack of self-confidence, and wannabe-Benz-ness? Dunno really, as the cars themselves are sometimes great!

By-the-way, post-Ford Jag's build quality has gone up a few notches? Neko.

There's that joke that's older than time as well- "What's the difference between a BMW and a porcupine?"

"Porcupines have pricks on the outside."

"Porcupines have pricks on the outside."

The same is of course said about Porsche drivers too... As was told to me - being a Porsche driver - gleefully a number of times. Then of course there's the joke with the punchline, 'If you drive a Porsche, you do not need a big cock!'

At one memorable public telling of which, an ex-GF gleefully yells out, 'Ask Kuroneko, he's got both!'. I was of course aghast, but only for a few microseconds... Neko.
