The mk4 has to be the easiest platform to work on ever it's so simple and easy to do. Not everything rots to hell like on an gm or Hyundai. Mk3 on th I the other hand is rot city.

Only things that are complicating are the audis with timing chain issues or any v10 tdi etc

Bmw are also quite reliable. More expensive in parts but over all a solid reliable car.

Mercedes has reliable engines. The rest not so much

there was a company in the late 80's and early 90's named "Kamei" (or something like that) that made kits for just about anything boxy.
For anyone that is old enough to have driven an 83 Escort with an ATX, it's one of the most infuriating automatic transmissions ever made. First and second are too low and drive range is too damn high. So that 1.6L revs its guts out til about 45mph and then... dies.
That being an 83 model also means that it has a the interference head so when the timing belt snaps, the head goes buh-bye. That was cured in mid 85. Also, this generation Escort ate brakes and front end pieces like they were free. My mom must've changed tie rods and ball joints four times in the 115,000 miles she had her 85.5 Escort.

i'd give maybe $3k-3500 for this car.

my father had a front air dam from them on his 83 Mustang GT.

As for that Pontiac LeMans that Junior posted (or was it a Can Am? or Grand Am?)... the family had a 75 LeMans coupe. When we got it in 1992, it had less than 20k original on it, has been driven to Keeseville NY from Coral Gables FL and parked by an elderly couple who ran it around during their summers here. My mom's ex-boyfriend bought it at an estate sale at a ridiculously low price. Other than the catalytic converter trying to catch the interior on fire, the car was amazingly trouble free and surprisingly good on gas for a big Pontiac 350 V8.

Thinking back, you're right. If it didn't have the Kamei logo on it, I would have mistook it for OEM.
