I didn't hate the 4 door Wrangler, but the Compass is horrible, the 2nd gen Liberty had less offroad capability than my slammed VW, and the new Cherokee is about as attractive as the Nissan Juke.

I think it all went downhill for them when they ditched the 4.0

I Think the Jeep Wrangler TJ was that last of the good jeep..The JK Jeep is just a 4WD car.....And built CHEAP and over priced...

It all went down hill after jeep ditched the 4.0 . I really like chevy trucks from the early 2000's , replace the original rusty brake lines and keep an eye on the rear disc brakes and your good! I see these come in the shop with 200-300k regularly that still drive great. Speaking of high milage I inspected a 02 Mitsubishi eclipse with a 3.0 and a 5 speed with 358k miles on the original engine/trans/clutch ! its on its last legs but still running !

Chrysler unfortunately had to ditch the 4.0L due to the fact the tooling to make the engine was actually almost worn out among other things. However, the original plan was to make a new 4.0L that would of been still inline but I am not sure of the specifics. This motor would of debuted with the original Liberty prototype which would of been a good Jeep with a great IFS and looked like the Jeep Dakar, however thanks to the German Occupation of Chrysler, the new CEO of DalmlerBenz saw the reviews of the RAV4 and wanted a "Cute SUV" which instead is a monstrosity on its own.

that happened with the Camaro prior to 81... the original tooling for the Camaro dash that dated all the way back to 1970 had worn out so badly that by 1978, the dashboard had to be redesigned even though the new Camaro model was only 4 years away.

I find modern vehicles severely lacking in the removable ice chest/garden hose department.

Car design for most mid range consumer cars has really hit a massive decline in stylishness, recently.
