All of these will conveniently fit into a regular sized travel backpack: bolt cutters, C4, crowbar, drugs, latex gloves, flashlight, and a can-o-spray paint.

Drugs are illegal, so you may want to replace that with a flask of your favourite liquor to quench your thirst during explorations.

YES, I cannot stress enough how horrible it is to walk around with one boot/foot/sock drenched with disgusting, stagnant abandoned-building water. It sucks. A lot. Especially when the pool of water is covered in a thin layer of white dust/asbestos making it look like concrete...

Your equipment is going to cater to your operation and who you are, specifically. I usually set up with minimal gear on my person, leaving what I don't need in my duffel, and an extra emergency with an overbearing array of items for use. I only carry what I can quietly hold in my pockets, maybe my baby backpack for a larger setup.

I personally carry the following; 2 flashlights, extra batteries, a few mob rags for disguise or small cuts, a flip knife w/ window breaker (for skulls), a red smoke bomb to pretend it's nerve gas, a power bar, multi tool, gloves, and my camera.

My duffel includes things like pry bars, bolt cutters, tape recorders with random conversation for misdirecting persuing security, cheap strobes and throw-away lights, all kinda stuff. This is for the more challenging and high-risk situations, and this bag stay in the trunk of my car.

My emergency bag includes stuff like medical supplies ranging from wound dressing to splinting, menstrual pads, rain ponchos, road flares, stuff like that. I also have a box of fireworks in case I have to break other laws to distract from my friends being chased for breaking those laws.

On a serious note, there are so many 'it depends' for your question, that there is no real way to answer. Location, weather, people situation, interior, etc all play part in it.

Granted it's been awhile since I've done anything. Currently dealing with health issues, but this is what I took with me. Mind you, I spend most of my time in rural Alaska, and the vast majority of abandonments are in bear/wolf territory and outside of cell service. So covering my ass is important.

I also check the legality of where I am going first, and either find it's public property or check with owners first hand as a photographer looking at points of interest. Haven't been told no yet.

*I currently use a North 7600 full face, but have been considering switching to a 3M 7800 because their CP3N canisters filter more things. That and I accidentally cracked the frame on it when replacing gaskets, so it's toast.
**Useful if you actually know trauma medicine. Otherwise I'd recommend a well put together first aid kit plus a SAM splint and packet or two of QuikClot ACS. Awesome stuff.
***Bare minimum protection + a respirator if you think asbestos is present.
****Awesome if you need to find a way back in the dark and a flashlight is dying or you can't go too bright. Couple bucks for something like 200 of them. Just pick them up as you leave.

Just be careful with tools in your bag. A small knife you might get away with but heavy duty stuff like bolt cutters can land you B&E charges in Canada. That can carry jail time as opposed to a fine (Depends on past arrest history tho).

It all fits in a large, heavy duty purse/satchel I acquired a few years ago: camera, cell phone, battery pack, tripod, water, snacks, 2 flashlights, headlamp, respirator, proof of who I am, knife, hand sanitizer, and the ever versatile, easily restocked handful of Starbucks napkins.

Is it really that bewildering? This is New Orleans we're talking about here. A group of thugs typically have a collective IQ of about 20. If you see red smoke and hear a guy yelling, "POPPING GAS!!", are you really honestly going to test that theory? I will say I have never used anything in my gear besides a flashlight and the smoke bombs for that very use. And it worked. Feel free to question me in the intricacies on how a thug fell for that. If it works, why not employ it?

As for things like the colt butters... It would have to be a reeeally good location. Like, a really good location. I've carried my 13-1 screwdriver, multi-tool, and a smaller pry bar before. Never found a utility for them, but who knows. I'm sorry but if I find a locked door, that bitch is coming open. Also, those things fit in my pockets, and the pry bar can fit behind my arm. I can quickly ditch these if I need to.

Also, I know what the consequences are in each move I make. It's up to me whether I end up employing such methods.

And DarkAngel, while I will say your immediate load out is really good, why the hell is having a stashed firearm not more bewildering? Yeah it's smart in a pinch, but I can't put that much faith in leaving my firearm somewhere. That's something I would leave in my vehicle, if I brought it.

I just bring a flashlight and an AK47 and I'm good.

A good neck strap. Mine broke and it wasn't pretty.
