Retrofitting my cummins this weekend. Have had HIDs in projector housings for a number of years but they are not good enough. The parts available now compared to then are far superior. Cant wait to get the bixenon setup put in.

Indeed! Great stuff... The best headlights I've ever had were standard Bosch with H4 100W inserts on my 356. Massive reflector, with a great wide throw. The HID on my new CR-V do a reasonable job but seem to lack sheer volume of light... I am about to replace these measly 45/55W sealed beams:

with these nice Koito H4s and perhaps some decent inserts, though driving in Japan rarely needs much light:

Intrigued if anyone has used CREE H4 insert at all? They seem to be not much good at all... Neko.

I had Bosch headlights with the H4 inserts in my '72 2002, my '69 Beetle and my '85 RX-7. Ridiculously bright and crisp, and I find the slightly flatter lens just looks a bit nicer.

Edit: As usual your cars are perfect.

I wish more people paid attention to this. Especially in Toronto. I get blinded far too many times by assholes.

Glad I did my retrofit correctly (using parts from TRS to do it, too). Did it with Morimoto H1's, though, due to size constraints... will probably do it with proper D2S bulbs and projectors next time.

Hows the light throw with the H1s? Thats what I ended up with because of size constraints as well. Plus TRS had a kit to directly upgrade my aftermarket housings with them.

Any complaints about them?

No complaints here with the light throw; I'm just more interested in trying it with a true OEM-styled HID setup next time.

I have a pair of Beetle headlights under the knife right now for a bit of a project. They should be glorious when they're finished. My inspiration came from something about as far away from a Beetle as you can get...
