My friend is a farmer. He have a lot of old car in his various barns. Last week, we found this under a pile of old junk.

Fitted 2 new batteries (it's 24v), added fresh gas, hotwired it and it started ! It needs some work on the exhaust line, maybe some body work and new seat covers (the current seats are garbage)

It's a 1985 (I think) Bombardier Iltis. It's a 4x4 powered by a 4 cylinder Volkswagen/Audi engine.

I'll keep you guys updated

That is so cool! Does it have a top? I mean, obviously it doesn't from the picture, so maybe what I'm asking is are tops available for it?

Yes we have the top, we took it off to get a better look at the inside.

This is going to be turned into a paintball war machine.

Save the paintball war machine stuff for a escort and cut the roof off. This thing needs to be kept up nice!

Yeah don't do that.

This. There are A LOT of military vehicle collectors that will pay a pretty penny for it.

I would love an Iltis! I had a chance once to get one for 500.00 but I didn't know what it was at the time! They have the granddaddy to the Quattro AWD system in them which is interesting.

I've been working with lately ex-NATO countries military vehicles which use the 24V system and if you want to use 12V accessories with them, I found it easier to go get a 12V Alternator and put in line with everything else; there is a way to just use 12V from one of the batteries, but its not exactly reliable. If you can score one of the 24V to 12V converters, those work good too.

Certainly the sound of an 8v VW engine from the late 70s, to the early 90s
