Oregon Trail Rally 2014: That smell is normal!

So this past weekend was again the annual Oregon Trail Rally. If you think last year's highlight accident was the worst, well, we had a car fire up on the Boyd stage.

I was with of course the lovely AMR RAT Team in this rig:

Which we can code 3 from another stage once we heard there was a red cross.

Once we got to the car fire, we found out the driver was taken to a midpoint by another car, (which was...bandi's friend ACP) and another car took the co-driver to spectator where one of our medic teams was. The co-driver had burns so we transported and both are doing just fine

The Nick Roberts Global Rally Team even put out a press release thanking us!

And BTW, the fire was suspected to be caused by a hot differential and possible fluid leaking onto it per the drivers; Rally America is out investigating still.

Holy- that doesn't happen too often! I'm sure they'll find a new safety requirement to raise the cost of building a rally car even more now

as if it isn't expensive enough!
(i consulted the online rules a little while ago, especially considering that the Climb To The Clouds is coming in New Hampshire).

Well, they said they at first their differential was being weird, then the smelt smoke, which the driver said "Oh that's normal!" and the co-driver disagreed and then that is when they noticed the fire.

BTW, Rally America minimum requirment is that ambulances just be able to respond to the start or finish of stages in 30 minutes. We set the standard by first running behind the green light car on all stages and in this case responded from the start of Endersby to Boyd in 15 minutes and went thru the stage at bogey time of 16 min.

And yes, I have a route book and can read it, Bandi. So if you ever need a co-driver...
