Funny how that alittle knock on a door pays off. < on 5/20/2014 10:12 PM > | Reply with Quote
So I am one of those guys who knocks on peoples doors if they have an interesting car / boat / motorcycle parked somewhere in the elements not being used etc. Well most of the time there friendly people who are going to "fix it one day" but anyhow on with my story. About three years ago I drove by this house every day to work and I it had a car in the back yard covered by a worn tarp, but it was wrapped up pretty good I could only make out the body and the wheels but I could tell it was something old. Well one day there was a truck parked out back next to it so I knocked on the door, nice older guy answered, we got to talking and it was a 68 firebird he bought from his buddy back in 84. He didn't want to sell it but he also had a 71 Honda cl350 scrambler he bought new he was interested in parting with since it was pretty rough but original under a tarp, I ended up buying it for $40 with a title and all that stuff. so I as pretty stoked about that but I told him if he ever decided to sell the Pontiac give me a call and I would like to buy it... well sunday night I got a call from him saying the neighbors complained about it and he needs to sell it! so I went over over lunch today and bought me a 68 firebird for $1,300! score! Interiors pretty roached but overall pretty solid car.

Nice find! That'll be a beauty when she's cleaned up!

this was the plan.... but when the guy started saying that it had sat in a field since 1997 and they were cleaning out the house for sale... OBO became $200 and he didn't want to hear that. The interior was pretty trashed as well. The carpet was gone on the drivers side, the driver's seat was fucking destroyed, windshield looked like it had been shot by a pellet gun or wimpy .22 at close range. That car is a $500 drift donor at best just the on the sheer parts need. which is too bad because I am still looking for something fun and offbeat.
