I have on a very, very pricey, purpose built dogbox for a rally car- but it even had an electric pump to circulate the fluid.

I do like how manual Subarus have a dipstick for the tranny.

My Cavaliers all had dipsticks for the manual transmissions. I am pretty sure the 05 Cobalt I had did too as it was the same box as the Cavalier used.

I always thought it was highly annoying that the Isuzu Rodeo with the auto trans had no dipstick but the manual transmission version had a dipsitck! Both had transmissions from Borg Werner!

Though, maybe Bandi or Samarui can remember this better than I can, but wasn't there a car with an electronic trans fluid level gauge? I want to say it was a Volvo?

BMW Engineers decided that a sensor was more reliable than a dipstick......

And VW (On the Touareg), Audi, Porsche, Mercedes, Volvo, etc, etc, etc, etc...

It's STUPID. If the engine isn't at perfect operating temperature (and what is after being on a hoist for half an hour), it usually won't give you a reading.

I remember this... but I can't find anything about it. It'll come to me one day. It was probably a Saab thing... just because it's different.

I'm thinking it was a feature on a Hyundai? I remember now it showed you the level PLUS the temp of it.

I learned they have a spin on the hard way - was working with my friend and told him to remove the oil filter while i go get the new one and the oil, I come bad and he's almost got it off, then i notice whats draining into the drip pan is red, Luckily we didn't drain it all.... Definitely an oh shit moment haha.
