Trespassing Fines Appearing on Record?

Hey guys,

So I have a question I've been unable to find by looking anywhere. I'm sure a bunch of people have been hit with trespassing citations. Do these citations appear on your record in regards to applying for a job. I'm 20 years old and in my future want a career in paid firefighting. I live in PA.

So say I was to get caught and given a citation for trespassing. Would this citation cause any future fire depts to reject my application. Any input on those who know PA law would be appreciated.

It will be on your record but I don't know if it matters for Firefighting. Just use common sense when going into a location. And make sure ur not wrecking anything.

Someone I know started a new government job a few years ago. At the time, he had a 4-year-old trespassing charge that also included "endangering a minor". Nothing showed up on the background check. This was in Tennessee. Of course, these things vary from state to state, and can be quite hard to predict.

Trespassing is a misdemeanor. Here in NJ, it's considered a "disorderly persons" offense like fighting or causing a disturbance. Employers are generally concerned with felonies.

I do know a person who received multiple trespassing citations and was later turned down for employment at a government agency, but it was the sort of position that required a thorough background check.

So I would seriously take Yoke's advice: fight it. If you plead Not Guilty and show up in court and explain yourself the prosecutor before the trial they will generally reduce the charge in exchange for more $$. It worked for me.

I've had a trespassing fine (although dismissed) on my record since one of my first explores. It's never caused in issue. I landed a job a year or so ago that required a drug test and background check, and it wasn't a problem what-so-ever.

Bottom-line is no one can say for sure whether you'd be charged/convicted of misdemeanor or felony trespassing in your hypothetical scenario.

So as a young guy, you should conduct yourself with the worst-case scenario in mind & be very careful.
