From the ad:

I am selling my 1997 Land Rover Discovery SE7. It's in great shape, and has been very well taken care of. It has a leather interior, cold a/c, full power, dual sunroofs, wood grain dash inserts, and a commanding view of the road. Driven about 10,000 miles per year, I have replaced/repaired the following items:
New (less than 3,000 miles) tires
Alignment
New oil, transmission fluid
Brake inspection, new fluid
Alternator replacement
Drivers side front axle assembly replacement
Drivers seat
New hood decals
Custom floor and cargo mats
New cargo door speakers
New Upper radiator hose
Newer Battery
Please feel free to contact me with any questions and to set up a test drive! I'm asking $2,800obo. Thanks for looking, and have a great day!

This seems like a good deal if it's as clean as he says it is. He's currently using it as his daily driver, so I shouldn't have any problems with the same.

My intention is to use this as a tow vehicle for a lawn service. I know it seems a little too nice for that, but why not? It costs the same as a similar condition ANYTHING else, and it looks like my business is slightly more professional.

I do also want to buy a roof tent and some other camping gear for this thing. Just enough to pack away for a weekend trip for 2 in the woods. That should be easy, since they make everything for Rovers already.

Here is another thread where I talk about these trucks, in case you're interested in more of my train of thought in vehicle selection:

I had a 98. Loved it. But some people avoid them like a hand grenade coated in aids. I did have a few electrical issues. But motor and trans wise it was solid.

That's amazing.

As for the Land Rovers... all the ones I've worked on have been remarkably horrible vehicles- and out here the steel fasteners react with the aluminum body panels, causing corrosion and eventually, body panels just kinda falling off. One from Florida obviously won't have that issue... and that one sounds like it's been really well taken care of.

Everyone seems to think this is a decent idea. It'll look like a British lawn service.

All the ones Ive worked on here have been rotted and a pain in the ass to source parts for. It also drives like a bus, but its a cool car.

As long as one of these wasn't a beach vehicle, it's going to be clean. The salt air makes them corrode quickly.

I think they have head gasket issues, and really poor on fuel, also parts are $$$... just my 2 cents but if it was taken care of it may be worth a good look.

I am fully aware of the head gasket issues. They're not a terribly hard job if you're drunk like the Briton that put it together.

Parts aren't any more expensive than any other comparable luxo-barge SUV.

I did, however, decide that an ex-fleet GM truck with an LS truck motor would be a good idea. Even if it needs a little bodywork and paint, I should be into one for under $3,000, stickered up like a real business truck. The Rover will come when I can afford the camp vehicle.

Can't beat a truck with an ls, change the brake lines (rust terribly) and you can't ask for a better truck

There's a reason so many GM trucks are used as fleet service trucks, as opposed to Fords and Dodges.
