Well just picked this beast up Friday as a "flip" I suppose. Got a good deal on it (thank you craigslist) and mechanically really good condition but needs a bit of rust repair. its an 87 vanagon westfalia automatic weekender (no fridge/sink/stove). These things are really growing on me and is going to be my winter project , if you remember I had two of them last year as well and both got shipped to California. Just figured I would post it up here since its been dead on here lately , Now im itching to get out camping!

I'd love one of those as a vintage camper. It sure would see a lot of miles going through the mountains.

Don't take this the wrong as it is not aimed at you personally, but I hate these fucking things. Get behind one on a hill and you just want to unleash an RPG on them... And the assholios that generally drive these in my neck of the woods won't move over and let traffic by even if they've got 17 miles of traffic backed up behind them.

other than that, i'm sure they're lovely.

I'm not sure, but I don't wear sandals . I just ordered $700 worth of body panels and some other stuff for it, I paid 2k for the van and expect to have somewhere south of 5k in it. When I'm done it's going on the samba for 12k ish, not sure why poeple want to pay so much but I'm going to absolutely take advantage.

I've seen a really good electric conversion on one of these at a rest stop on the highway...talking to the owner, he said it was worth breaking his back literally switching over the motor.

Dude across the street from me has two of these. One he has actually driven, the other has been on four ramps for about two years.

I just started working on it over the weekend, fixed the rust in the drivers side floor / wheel well next to the seat, next is the drivers dog leg. I'll post pictures

NO.

Winnebago took everything that was awesome about the Eurovan and removed it, adding a bunch of overstuffed, plush parts that rattle and fall of, and made the thing too big to lift on a hoist.

I'm still baffled why they even had a trailer hitch option!

what I started with, guy was tired of getting wet so filled rust with spray foam

what was left after I removed all the rust :

new fabricated metal in place, and welded in, sealed and some body filler, also the seat belt mount is on the panel I re-created.

sanded, primed and a coat of black. im not sure why I painted it because im going to have to sand it down again for when its painted body color.

This weekend its on to the dog leg and drivers side rocker area. got repair panels so no more fabrication thankfully.

The Rialita can pull a trailer no problem (They have a VR6 in them). Just, everything from the steering wheel back is complete trash.
