Well the carb on the 80 toyota I bought a few days ago is jacked. To lazy to rebuild the carb especially since it has electronic control and a water choke on it. Dont feel much like paying $300 bucks to get a remaned one either.

Found reference to a few guys swapping on TBI setups off of a 2.8L GM V6 with great results.

The tuning equipment to flash chips is around 300 bucks or so plus I could use it to tune chips for others to swap with.

Scored a wiring harness, TBI unit, 5.7L programmable Computer, and all the ignition modules at the junkyard yesterday for 50 bucks so cost should be way

Anyone ever swapped TBI onto something?

I went from a points ignition on a 69 Jeepster to a HEI once. I use to love points. Now I could live without ever seeing them again.

I feel the same about carbs BUT couldn't ya just grab a good Webber and swap on it? They pretty easy to dick with when need be.

But it would be nice to see a TBI swap on an early 80's 'yota.

I'm rambling. Just do it.

I would just rebuild the carb, I think it will be a ton more work dicking with modifying a tbi setup , what's a rebuild kit cost $30 ? And a few hours to do?

ive fought with my fair share of webers on these trucks in the past, I wont touch another one with a 10ft pole haha. Plus they just dont do well at angles when 4 wheeling.

Ive rebuilt plenty of carbs too but have never had luck with the stock toyota Aisin carbs. They ALWAYS idle high because of the internal solenoid being bad and you cant buy the part without getting a reman carb unfortunately. Been down that road before too haha.

Sort of going into uncharted territory but hopefully will be successful.

Wiring harness and chip flashing equipment get delivered today sometime. Made my adapter up yesterday and just need to clean it up a bit so it looks purty. Its pretty rough since i shaped it with a die grinder but it should work great. Need to clearance the cast iron EGR elbow a bit too for the throttle cable to clear. Going to leave the emissions junk in place so it looks like its complete. Should be able to tune it with the computer to get it to pass the tailpipe test if I decide to register it.

It ran for the first time this weekend! Have some sensor issues from the junkyard sensors but i will get that fixed tomorrow with new parts. Also starting to think that the ECM I got from the junkyard may have it's problems as well. Seems to fire the injectors and fuel pump AFTER the ignition switch is turned off so it will continue to run?!?

It actually runs pretty damn well considering its running on a mostly chevy v8 computer tune with a ECM that may have issues.

Completed throttle linkages and rebuilt TBI

TBI harness wired into the truck. Needs cleaned up yet but is all functioning.

Guess ive got 2 local wheelers who are watching my progress on this. They both have newly rebuilt 20r carbureted engines and want EFI. Might have a chance to make some money off of this haha. At least have a few more brains to apply to the tuning portion haha.

Had some tuner issues but got them figured out tonight! It was idling SUPER high. Figured out the chip wasnt being flashed properly and once I got it figured out the idle came right back down. Its still a bit high as Ive got it set to 850RPM currently and it will go lower for the final tune. Also will adjust the throttle butterfly stop to get the idle correct.
