I have been to the Marmora Mine (just east of Havelock, west of Madoc) quite a few times over the years, but have never had the time, nor equipment to explore into the shafts and tunnels that are hidden beneath the buildings. Well yesterday, a few of my explorer friends and I decided to finally make it underground, and see what Marmora has to offer. Got the flashlights and headlamps ready, grabbed the camera, some rope, a small garden shovel, and some water and headed out from Omemee to go sneak a peak. To our surprise, after walking out to the public viewing platform, all the buildings were gone, leaving behind a few concrete foundations in the ground. Just goes to show you, take opportunities as they are given. We still got to go underground tho, as one of the "blocked off" tunnel entrances had a small hole in the corner, which we shimmy'd thru to get into the shaft. It only went down about 100 feet long (about 25 degree decline) but was still pretty cool. The bottom was covered in dirt, and completely blocked off. After 6 hours of exploring, we decided to call it a day. I will upload some pictures as soon as I'm off work.
