| | | Posted by bandi There's a few really good cars on the list... and a lot of REALLY, REALLY awful cars. Good read! ('97 Malibu/Vega/Mustang II... LOL) And they got the photo wrong for the Chrysler Cirrus- that's a Concorde.
| Here's the thing, Bandi. You're looking at those cars out of context from when they were introduced. In retrospect, yes, what flaming piles of poo, but at the time each car was introduced, they were right for their period. Mustang II was introduced in 1974. Think about what was going on then? energy crisis, gas rocketing to (gasp) over a dollar a gallon. Along comes the Pinto-at-heart Mustang II with its tiny engine, trim dimensions and styling perfect for the era. Ford every fucking one of them, too. The Vega promised so much and delivered so little... again, in retrospect, poo. The Malibu... oh the hated N-body Malibu. In 97, the Camry, Accord and Maxima ruled the midsize roost. They were the plain vanilla family car that everyone had. Everything was downsizing, so GM takes the venerable N-body platform, creates a plain vanilla body (which honestly wasn't that unattractive- merely unoffensive), puts the usual suspects under the hood for engines and passes it off as "the car you know america could build" (which I never really got). At first, they weren't bad cars, but get some miles on them and oh what pieces of shit they turned out to be (just like every other fucking N-body out there). So, that's the way one needs to read this list- in context.

| The malibu was actually such a gravy train for GM that when the body was re-styled they kept making the car as a chevy classic for fleet buyers. My buddies dad is a cabbie and his cab is a malibu, his personal car, his wifes car and his two kids cars. quite a bland driveway i must say, but cheap to maintain
