These are just WAITING for you to bring them home....

as a kid my uncle had a sportsman with the body of that first one, so the panel between the front and back doors. I was just fascinated by the sliding door!

taken yesterday, my 2000 Subaru Outback stopping on US Route 9 south of Plattsburgh NY. I really love this old bomb, even more than I loved the Lumina or Monte Carlo. It's big, comfortable, a tank in the snow and just great to drive. 156,500 miles and still going.

Noticed a small drip from the rear diff on my truck... I was baffled since it wasn't coming from the third member in the front and there's no cover to leak. Surprise! The god damned differential actually rotted out. I started poking around with a screw driver to see if I could do something about and swiftly put the head of the screw driver through it.

Glue some bow ties here and there, and you'll be happy for the rest of your life (Friendly Giant Joke) Seriously, I like exploring different brands. Unless a known lemon, things change when used. Meaning unexpected good vehicles can be found. I've recently acquired a '98 Mercury Pillager Minivan. Reworked Nissan Quest. Decent little van, love the space. 3 GM V8's in the yard, but the van is my daily.

Followed a Fiat X19 earlier today. Saw a 60's Chrysler Imperial converted to a camper too. Spring is in the air...

*Cool photo btw.

i just spent $330US on parts for the Kobayashi 'Baru to keep it running and pass NY state inspection. Its current inspection sticker expired May 1st.
It read like a laundry list...

front brake kit
rear brake kit
parking brake kit w/pads
muffler/intermediate pipe assembly
accessory belt
upper & lower radiator hoses
spark plugs + wires
K&N air filter
fuel filter

and that's before the junkyard parts I sourced for the hatchback that's fucked... pieces like the rear wiper and support strut assembly.

I dropped the Kobayashi Baru off at the garage this afternoon... it goes under the knife tomorrow. New front and rear brakes and rotors, parking brake hardware as well as a new exhaust and I told him to replace the catalytic converters if the CEL won't de-illuminate.

After that, the rest of the repairs should make my Subaru ready to face another 157,000 miles.

Auto or manual?

A friend's Legacy GT of approximately the same age was very fun to ride in as a manual. And kinda comfortable, too.

Oh good, my slow clap processor made it into this thing.

you learn to ignore assholish comments on the internet, but if I must retort... no, the Baru will not go 140. i have only the Lesbaru to 90 and that was really foolish considering how hard it winds at those speeds. No, the 140+ was in reference to a rather spirited run I had versus a 350Z Nismo edition owned by a douchebag at Garrands' Nissan in Plattsburgh NY. I wanted to see if the Nismo Z was all that and a bag of chocolate chip cookies. In a straight line, it was not. In fact, the guy driving it wouldn't even acknowledge me when he got out of his car in the village of Keeseville NY... And never once have I ever uttered the term "bro" or "brah" in conversation. Not once. Ever.

My car was not the fastest or the best handling, but it was good for what it was and the ultimate test for it was hanging with an Audi S4 over a rather twisty piece of NY Route 9N called "Tongue Mountain". The Audi driver complimented me and my car as he said he was at his limits trying to keep me behind him. I took that to be an honor coming from a strudelpilot. So laugh laugh laugh... my days of high speed and performance cars has come and gone and now I drive a car my grandmother would've bought.

"dead" is one of very few excuses for being seen in a Cavalier Rally Sport.

I found one in a junkyard once that someone had absolutely mauled with a ring of keys and a pack of razor blazes. All over the shiny black paint minus about half the clearcoat and the 1996-esque turquoise and purple pinstripes. Plus there were quite a few marks from the claw end of a hammer or other such gnarly tool in places where they should not have been. It truly seemed to be better off in that junkyard than on the road.

(...come to think of it, it may still be there. The guy's had the same two rotted-out 240Zs for nine years. At least.)
