Anyone getting or giving a nice gun or some cool gear this year? My shotty is at the gun smith getting a rail installed and should be back in time for Santa to "bring it"...

This Burris "may or may not be" under the tree.

That bayonet looks like a short sword. I guess that they really wanted to be prepared.

It dates from 1918 so almost certainly served in WWI and there is a decent chance the rifle fired shots in anger. God knows if that bayonet saw action given the nature of trench warfare. The French fought their asses off in WWI.

Now if it was a WWII era Mas36 rifle, yeah, that would be never fired and only dropped once.

What is your opinion on .45acp vs 9mm? I'm a bit torn, as I just like shooting full sized .45's and I have a pile of ammo. But, as I started doing more SD focused training and shooting I discovered that, while I was plenty accurate with the .45 in a compact, followup shots were much better and quicker with the 9. I also feel I can assess and engage multiple targets faster and better. So, I traded around my S&W 457 for a fullsize M&P9 to supplement the M&P9c that I picked up for my wife as house gun and moved that one to my concealed carry weapon.

it doesnt matter what other people say, you shoot what feels good for you.
the .45 lovers are gonna scream "stopping power", and the 9mm people are gonna scream "less recoil, more shots".

i own a 9mm, .40, and a 380. believe it or not, i carry the little 380. why? cuz no one will see it unless i pull it out.

I've made my decision... 9mm. I just wanted to hear what other who made the same switch though.

Although, a mid-grade 1911 might be on the shopping list when the profit sharing check shows up next month...

im in love with the ruger 1911. its kind of expensive, but worth every penny. smoothest pistol ive ever fired.

imo, 9mm is the better choice, i just wanted you to make the decision before i said anything. i like the massive amount of ammo they hold.

I'll let you know when I find or reload myself some 8mm Lebel ammo. They have not really made much since the 1940s.

Stopping power is a myth (when discussing handgun shooting anyway).
Rounds on target is what matters.

".45 acp. because shooting twice is silly."

The 45 is a subsonic heavy round that inflicts a massive amount of damage (depending on the style of bullet). Where as a 9mm is a much faster, lighter round tending to over penetrate and cause less damage on its way through the target.

While expanding rounds are available in both (and more) calibers, it has been proven that the slower and heavier .45 acp causes the most damage and can claim "the most stopping power". It's major limitation is it's size which limits its magazine capacity. A secondary limitation is it's recoil in compact and sub compact frame/lighter weight pistols as it greatly affects follow up shots.

"If I ever I meet the guy who came up with the idea of a compact 1911, I will shake his hand. And then kick him in the balls."

Wouldn't that honor actually go to .50 Action Express?

Its most likely 8mm Mauser, which would work in a lot of Mauser rifles from Germany, Yugoslavia, Belgium, Turkey, etc. Probably not 8mm lebel, stuff is rare.

I appreciate the offer though man.
