Been wondering about this myself since all the talk of normalizing relations with Cuba have been going around.

Hell, people are patching together cars that are half rusted away now because something better doesnt really exist. Running/driving, even if they have some odd engine swapped in, is way better to start with than something that is completely rusted away. Probably some fairly rare stuff still rolling around down there. Could be interesting to see what makes it back up north if this goes through.

Well we canuks spend a lot of money in cuba, myself i have never been, but from friends who have been to havana, a lot of the american classics you see driving around there isnt much left save for the sheetmetal, a lot are on cobbled together frames etc, and even if relations are "normalized" i doubt the value of these cars would equal what it would cost to ship em out of the country. Keep in mind there have been autos shipped to cuba via canada and europe for years as well. Here in montreal there was a used car lot that was shipping his stuff that wasnt good enough for auction down there until recently.

I went to cuba last year, in Varadero some of the classics were in pristine condition, old cadillacs, chevrolet bel airs, impalas you name it. Although most had weird diesel lada drive train swaps for the most part the bodies were immaculate.

My neighbor is from Cuba and one of the hats he he work was a mechanic. He said while there is lots of pristine classics, there is plenty of beat up classics too that most tourists don't see unless they go off the beaten path.

Also they do have post 1987 vehicles; mostly used Ford and GM trucks and vans that are Canadian models along with School Buses from Blue Bird and Wayne.

School Buses from Blue Bird and Wayne.

there was a whole scandal in quebec, a coroner who recomended an immediate removal of long nose school busses from the road was running an export company that specialized in bus sales to cuba!
