They tried to reclassify propellant and then ammunition ...
Remember this?

They will keep trying and trying and trying and eventually ... it will stick.

well when they reclassified an Islamic terrorist's mass murder as "work place violence" we knew things were headed the wrong direction

these people will try every backdoor means to chip away at the 2nd amendment they can find, even to the point of calling a firearm a weapon of mass destruction if it holds more than 6 rounds

This is a step along the way to a total ban on ammo.
Lead has been deemed bad for the environment.
Steel has been deemed armor piercing.
Catch-22.
It's pretty brilliant actually.

Well since we already started 3D printing lowers, perhaps they can look into printing custom bullets.

this will become a precedent for taking away other types of ammo, next some of the steel AK rounds, the ATF language will have to be changed but its says something about the percentage of tungsten or steel versus the total jacket material by weight

its a bogus premise in any case Ive never heard of a cop being killed by a XM855 round, however, if they take these away what are we supposed to use on them jack booted thugs when they come?

Its the same sort of BS attempt to drive the price of ammo up higher that the administration used when we attempted to have all US military surplus brass cases shredded and sold for scrap metal value (aka, less money) instead of sold to ammunition companies for reloading.

Right? How many AR's have killed cops? Near zero? Not a lot of gangstas running with AR's.

This is nothing but disarmament.

True enough Avsfreak but the black rifles are responsible for crimes just by virtue of being black, ooops did I say that???

It is an incremental step towards disarmament I think, start with the weapons that pose the most threat to the ones that will be doing the disarming, hence my reference to "jack booted thugs" as seen in Waco and Ruby Ridge and coming to a confiscation station near you soon.

All that said, its pretty easy to follow the ATF logic, this round (out of a rifle) will penetrate level II maybe level III body armor, the regs say if its AP and fired from a "handgun" its prohibited.

Im no lawyer and never played one on TV but if I were to contest this I would contest the definition of armor. the makers of bullet resistant garments and the vernacular use of the words body armor go beyond the intent of the law in my opinion

That is like putting a bigblock in a honda civic. The plr was a novelty to the industry and to any "serious shooter". It's claim was a pdw that used common ammo and mags as the accompanying long guns. It was a failure in the real world where much better, compact user friendly, field and battle tested pdw's far surpass this "experiment". Not saying I would not want to own a plr, but.... I don't want to pay money for it.

This is interesting in a way. Older guys may remember a company called MSC (Maximum Sub Caliber) that made spun copper projectiles for .25, /.32 and .380 ACP. After a few years of brisk sales, BATF&E reclassified their bullets as armor piercing (AP in. 25 Auto, I shit you not) and outlawed them. So.......we have precedent that pure copper projectiles are no longer legal. Now steel core. One little chip at a time. Just my $.02.........

Armor-piercing COPPER? Um, that's not likely, and is a classification failure.

It is absurd since essentially ANY rifle round is going to go through od at least give a real good shot at getting through body armor, and once somebody sells a rifle with a sub 16in barrel suddenly that rifle ammo becomes "AP Pistol Ammo"

Jonsered, Im older than you and that being said I remember well those armor piercing 25ACP, and the infamous KTW "cop killer" bullets they were Teflon coated and their ads showed them shooting through engine blocks and cinder blocks and performing other miracles.

The was a place in Dallas I used to shop called Walds Police supply. They had on display a early model bullet resistant vest (may have been Second Chance) they had shot with every caliber commonly available. Only two things had penetrated it .22mag fired from a rifle, and a fixed blade Puma Bowie knife.

Spun copper, which is harder, but still not AP in my book.

I generally don't trust The Blaze, but they're not the only source with that story.
