Interesting.....
http://www.cbc.ca/...iversity-1.2968367

"CBC News has learned that a large and sophisticated tunnel was dug underneath the woods near Toronto’s Rexall Centre and York University.

A Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) employee reportedly found the tunnel while walking near the TRCA headquarters at 5 Shoreham Drive in January.

CBC News has learned that the tunnel, which has since been filled in by authorities, was large enough for a grown person to stand in, at around 2.5 metres deep and running about 7 metres in length underground. The tunnel had lights inside and was powered by a generator."

Clearly being built on somebody's expectation of the exorbitant ticket prices Toronto's entertainment tax will allow for the Pan Am games!

As soon as I heard tunnel, I came right here to UER . . . now why is that ?

:)

This was a weird one. Can't see any images yet posted, except for the lonely one from CBC.

From that blurry one from potato cam, it looks like the tunnel is very well braced, and from the electrical and generator, it does indeed look like the crew was there to see the thing through. The material in the tunnel looks 'newer' - we all know what rot and deterioration looks like and this place hasn't been touched yet.

Sorry - here's the linky to the post at CBC with a short vid that really shows FA.

http://www.cbc.ca/...es-venue-1.2968367

At first I had thought that a bunch of York U yahoos had been doing something witty (along the lines of what Ground State proposes) but now don't think so. Shame they filled it in last month.

Peeps likely parked at the Toronto & Region Conservation Authority and hiked all their crap into the woods - those beams look pretty dang heavy.

There was a farm on that site in the 60's until the property was cleared in the late 60's/early 70's or so for development, Fuzzy would hazard a guess it was an old bomb shelter the farmer built in the forest away from his house.

Judging by that photo posted, the wood looks old and aged and not new and recently constructed, so it's probably been there a while. Not sure about that blue tarp thing, but the rest could have been covered up/enclosed well enough that there wasn't the usual falling apart-ness/decay one would expect. That shovel handle looks old too - not something someone would go to the Home Depot and buy today.

I'd check the VIN on the generator, it might give some hints as to when it was built and how long it's been there.

from the TPS press report a few moments ago they made it sound as if it had been recently used (ice formed around the sump-pump discharge line indicating recent use) at least this winter.

The question I want answered is why they didn't just surveil the area and see who showed up. One of the reporters asked this question to the TPS rep, who flat out refused to answer. Seems a little fishy to me.

That's interesting about the old farm. I wonder if someone just stumbled upon it recently and started using it for whatever, university student's secret clubhouse, and that's why it looks recently used.

The sign said "Anybody caught trespassin will be shot on sight"

It's a captivating mystery. But for all the sensationalism about Pan Am games terrorism, it doesn't seem as nefarious as the Pickering dungeon house from a few years ago, which was built to torture someone.

These guys were apparently doing a fairly sophisticated tunnelling operation but left a huge pile of dirt in plain sight near a big university campus. The stakes don't look to have been particularly high for them.

I agree, and furthermore they keep mentioning 'heavily wooded area' but there's a campus walking path a mere 20-30 metres away.

apparently they removed the dirt from the area in small bits, a little at a time. There wasn't a like of dirt, it was intentionally hidden.

My bet is that it was some engineering students making some type of fort.

I'm not usually paranoid about these things but, anyone smell a cover up? (Pun not intended)

Who the hell digs a hole to hang out? Who are these guys? Clones of Patrick the starfish? (Living under rocks?)

Something really weird about this whole endeavor. :/
