A local contractor texted me to say that he could see a gaping entryway into one
of the Niagara escarpment's most impressive historic mansions. With warmer weather in the forecast bringing the possibility of a site owner visit and POE repair, there was no time to lose. Messages flew back and forth and soon the house was descended upon by a team of explorers. I'll try to keep my submitted photo numbers under control to allow you guys to attach equally opulent highlights!

The two-and-a-half-storey mansion was designed in the Italianate style and constructed between 1876-1878 by a settler who came to the area with a fortune made in the California gold rush. The interior is laid out in a centre-hall plan with an ornate cherry-wood staircase. Carved mantels and elaborate cast-iron radiators adorn most of the rooms.

Literally the entire ground level and most of the 2nd level are covered in sparkles all over the floor. Perhaps this was just some idiot teenage party, but in my mind I picture a flamboyant masquerade ball held here as a final farewell to a house that had stood for a century and a half.

My handheld ways aren't as conducive to bringing out the details in dark spaces, but happily there was some natural light in many of the spots that mattered. Thanks for the good times, GS!

Holy crap, Phrenzee!! What kind of magic did you perform to process #8????? You'd think you took that in a kitchen with bright fluorescent lighting overhead. And it looks so natural; that's the part I can't get over.

Doom, love the title on shot #5 of the... whoops... Almost said 'pentagram' but no, the idiots screwed it up. Pentacle. Duhhh, they thought they were worshipping Satan and got Aleister Crowley instead.

We need DrunkenMunky420 to post his shots but he can't even see this thread.

I was shining my flashlight into the overhead light fixture, which dispersed the light.

Great shots guys, love the dark shadows and wicked architectural features. That staircase is pure perfection!

@ GS is it possible to add DM420 as a special Basic Member for this thread? At the bottom of this thread it says "Private and the following Basic Members".

Just throwing up a handful of shots straight out of my camera. This is a great spot, awesome decay, great for long exposures.

I was overcome by the stink of skunk as soon as I walked in, worried I was about to get sprayed I stupidly kept going inside. Luckily the skunk was nowhere to be found!!!

Ground State I totally didn't mean to rip off your first two shots!!!!!

Thanks to the good friends who shared this spot!

I like what you did with #6, leaving some kind of light source down there in the black void. Gives a whole different perspective to size of the house.

Also, I'm seeing the room in #9 for the first time, so thanks. I gave DM's monster flashlight back to him so he could take a shot and had no good light source to see inside there.
