I will be traveling to Italy next next week and was wondering about exploring in Europe. I would love to explore a bit while I am over there.
I will be in Rome and Florence, so I'm guessing that finding abandoned places may be a bit difficult. I was wondering about active places. Is there anything that I should be more aware of/cautious about (that isn't obvious)? Are there any unique opportunities that I should look for? Anyone have a badass story they would like to share?

There is lot's of stuff in italy, you're bound to find something by pure chance if you have a look around. Other than that, you can find a lot of stuff with google-skills.

I would just do some research only to find out possible locations. Be warned though, urbexing in another country can lead to some pretty serious legal problems. Chances are they would let you go, but it could give you troubles in the future if you wish to return to Italy. I'm pretty jealous..Have fun!

You'd have to be doing something exceptionally silly to be arrested in Europe for trespassing, it's pretty much unheard of in my experience except in very very rare cases. Places like Belgium, Italy etc are so much more laid back.

Get to know your local laws some trespassing laws allow for arrest by mere presence, others is on removal to leave. Also look to see if the offense is a felony or a misdemeanor.

Ask about the reputation of the police there.

The Italians are protective of there national landmarks, so anything historical expect them to be extra liberal in making arrests.
