I recall some pics of the place that you posted somewhere a few years back and even though it's been tagged up the past few years, I think it's still the best kept in MA.
Speaking of Shutter Island . . . . . for anyone who didn't know. Like almost all these locations, it's no longer owned by the state. The city now owns it and has plans to demo all the buildings and build a nice park. The state is currently remediating and cleaning out the buildings. Madison Security is gone, every few hours a town cop drives through but he just smiles and waves. A lot of the buildings are open and no one seems to be fixing the holes anymore. Not much left to see there but if it's on your "to-see list" you're probably running out of time. All the newer buildings are cleaned out now but the older buildings that they won't go into are still kinda cool. Unfortunately some of the buildings there even I won't go into anymore.
A buddy of mine who lives nearby told me he recently attended a town meeting where they appropriated a lot of money to secure the place. Fences, new security company, video cameras etc. Makes no sense to me why a town would spend money securing buildings they plan to tear down . . . .
A few from a recent trip there . . .
Got in and turned on my camera just to see "No card in camera" Yup - left them all at home. Damn I can be a jackass, luckily I had the old backup camera with me so quality of the pics is not so good.
