Several years ago, the couple who owned this location both died in the house. The subsequent wet-rot damage to the location was extensive, and it seemed like the entire building would be a demolition write-off. Indeed, when I originally explored this location, the entire ceiling was bulging downwards, threatening to both collapse and release an absolute lake of orange-tinged water.

I was surprised to drive by the past weekend and find the doors and windows wide open. The house was being renovated and the wonderfully friendly gentleman working inside allowed me to take some comparison photos showing how it looked then VS now. It isn't often we see places like this brought back from the brink.

And here explaining the intricacies of his work is Rudy himself, telling me about how he dragged much of the original material out into the 400 ft deep backyard and burned it, but left it unattended and returned to find half the yard destroyed by a grass-fire and local emergency response parked all over the lot.

If all goes well, Rudy expects the house to be up for sale by the end of the summer, and he says he looks forward to seeing a new young couple with children swinging again from the backyard willow.

Crazy. Looked like a sneeze was gonna bring the place down. They're basically building a new home around the original front door and fireplace.

Where does this door go, Haven't been through,
It's not feeling normal, What do I do?

Wow what a difference GS, guess it's rare that a house like that bounces back.

Of all the old houses I've seen, this is low on the list of ones I'd want to save.

Nice before and after study.

Wow, what a difference! I'm pretty shocked someone would take on such a project. The smell from that water must have been unreal. Love the comparison! Great post GS.

So the house was fire damaged? Makes me wonder what happened to the little one that lived there Interesting comparison photos though!
