I recently learned about "The Catalyst Project" from an acquaintance and thought it might be of interest here. About a year ago, Maxon Hall, the science building at Caroll University in Waukesha WI, was slated for demolition to later be replaced by an updated facility. Instead of quietly bringing it down, the University put on a cultural event to send it off. Tibetan Buddhists were invited to create an beautifully elaborate sand mandala which was ceremonially destroyed just as the building was to be.

more here: http://expressmilw...ala-treatment.html

The building was also opened to artists who were allowed to express their creativity throughout the structure prior to demolition. Here are some pics (not mine) of the project.

This is great! I wish they had done something like this at my university. During my time there, they demolished 3 historical buildings without a care.
