BTW, I always read a lot (of lecturing) about respirators on here...but does anyone REALLY know HOW to test their respirator?

And how they are tested to OSHA standards? I only do because I was doing asbestos removal.

I have a few tips, since it is required by me to be schooled in proper use of respirators:

a) block the exhaust with your palm/ attempt to exhale
b) block the intake of the filters with both your palms/ attempt to inhale
c) neither attempt should result in the feeling of any moving air
d) if so, re-adjust and try again
e) trail a stream of smoke near your face in zero-wind conditions
f) perform step 'a' near this stream.
g) perform step 'b' near this stream.
h) If your mask is airtight, the stream will not budge.

The only time I've felt sick from what I believe was asbestos was around this time last year, during what ended up being my last explore of a now-demolished hospital. The morgue was pretty much the only thing left, and almost immediately upon going down there, an awful smell overcame my nostrils and I just could not shake it. It seemed like within thirty minutes, I couldn't shake a pounding headache, so we left.

I was sick for the next full week. I still don't know what it was down there, but my voice was gone, my head was pounding and I just felt weak. Luckily it subsided, but I've been more open to wearing some sort of respirator nowadays.

I'm no doctor, but that sounds more like it might have been a mold or contaminate related incident.
