Hello hello!
My name is Victoria, I am new to the forum and thought I'd start a unique little thread!
I'm interested to know who else enjoys taking creative photos while out urban exploring? By this, I mean trying out new lighting techniques, taking self-portraits or light painting... More than just snapping still photos of urban decay.
I've been urban exploring for awhile now and I often find myself revisiting some locations once I am familiar with their vibe. I'll scope out some interesting areas and naturally come up with shoot ideas for the future. I'll usually bring a friend and together we make my visions come to life!
For example, I've taken fire breathing photos in a storm drain (I know what you're thinking and yes this was VERY dangerous. I would not recommend anyone to do this. Taking photos of someone spitting kerosene onto a torch in an enclosed area with barely any oxygen was very stupid but the photos were very worth it), car photos in front of abandoned industrial buildings and light painting, multiple exposures, etc.
Here are some of my photos and my techniques explained for you to try it out yourself if you are interested!
Taken 1km inside a storm drain, using a Nikon D800 and a 14-24mm on a tripod and an SB-910 flash mounted on the hotshoe, pointing up towards the ceiling of the drain. During the exposure, the torch was in the way. This photo was actually taken by accident but the fire came out adding such a cool feel to this photo! Win!
Exposure Info: f/22 - 10s on a tripod (very tricky with the water coming through)
Taken inside the same storm drain with a Nikon D800 and a 14-24mm lens, quicker shutter speed to catch the fire. Flash fired as well, bouncing off the ceiling.
Exposure Info: f/5.6 - 1/1000s hand-held
Taken in the same storm drain with a Nikon D800 and a 14-24mm lens, flash was on, pointed at the wall behind me to light up the subject. Kerosene was put around the circle and lit on fire.
Exposure Info: f/14 - 1/1.3s
Taken with a Canon 5D Mark II and a 24-105mm lens in a dangerously moldy motel in Oakville, ON. Ran in and out as fast as I could.
Exposure Info: f/5.6 - 1/30s.
Taken at the infamous Camp 30 in Bowmanville with a Canon 5D Mark II on a tripod.
Exposure Info: f/8 - 10s with flash mounted on hotshoe, fired once.
Taken outside of the Symes Road Incinerator in Toronto, ON using a Nikon D810 and a 14-24mm and finger lights bought from Dollarama to create the light painting. A flashlight lit up the incinerator for a couple seconds during the exposure to create the eerie effect.
Exposure Info not available.
Taken with a Nikon D600 using a 24-70mm, using built-in multiple exposure mode on a tripod.
Exposure Info: f/5.6 - 1/2s each shot.
Taken with a Nikon D600 + 14-24mm lens on a tripod using built-in multiple exposure mode, this one was taken outside an abandoned asylum in Drummondville, QC.
Taken with a Nikon D600 + 14-24mm lens on a tripod using built-in multiple exposure mode. Same Asylum called Asile Ste-Clotilde-de-Horton.

Let me know if you need some tips, I'd be happy to help or shoot with any locals who are interested in collaborating! I have lots of experience with this and I always look to share and merge talents with others who have the same interests.
And a few last ones for ya... Here's one of me in front of my car... This one was taken outside the abandoned Grand Trunk Railway in Stratford., ON. I took it myself using a tripod, was kinda scared to get a flat tire but whatever, the photo was worth it:
