Quick & Rainy Stop At An Industrial Warehouse

There we were, standing in the middle of a dark industrial warehouse in Hamilton with a morning shower raining down in front of us – inside the plant. With a major section of the roof missing, it was a neat sight that all of us have likely shared from time to time. I had checked the perimeter of this building several times over the past four years, to no avail. But a recent POE allowed a trio of explorers to give this one a quick visit to start off a rainy day of exploring.

Welcoming Light

In 1994, Hamilton ‘vested’ this industrial property in the name of the city and hired 24-hour security to prevent the owner from gaining access to it. This was in response to a land survey that determined there was at least $200,000 in environmental violation expenses here that involved machine oil and other contaminants. The building officially went up for tax sale in 1998. Today it sits empty and decaying. A windstorm tore a portion of the roof off in 1996, providing current explorers with a great skylight to illuminate much of the dark interior. Moss grows across the floor and vegetation climbs up the walls, all thanks to the disrepair of the roof. There was a purchaser here in 2004 who was going to turn the building into a architectural stone-cutting business. They agreed to clean up the site and to fix the roof. The former appears to have been done, but the roof cost may have ultimately killed their plans for development.

This was a great location! I absolutely loved the light coming in through the broken roof with the rain, made for some great shots.

Thanks for taking Bumblebee and I along with you!

Rainy days are great for photos.

Agreed, and very highly overlooked for the absolutely excellent weekend rurex opportunities they provide. No better way to quell worries of getting to that awesome location, only to find the neighbors are out doing Saturday yard-work or the property owner is in a tractor plowing the field around the house. I actually check the weekend forecast for rain with the specific intent of heading out the 'impossible' locations.

Great place, so dark and bleak, and then just enough slices of light to see some detail. Nice pics!

I think I tried to get into this place a year ago but couldn't find an easy way in or one that didn't require breaking things and the constant truck traffic was spooking me, so I left. I'll have to try again soon it seems. There are other places in the area that seem like possibilities as well though I'm not nearly as courageous as I used to be, so I haven't gotten into anything.

Last year I got into a couple insanely guarded places during snow storms. Its always been a good exploring day in my eyes. I remember doing a building during the 9/11 attacks and literally walked right past security.

Gotta use everything to your advantage.
