I posted about
this site a short while ago, but on hearing that demolition was progressing rapidly, I decided to return and have one last wander around inside. I managed to invite three Korean friends along, the first time this has ever happened, and hopefully a positive sign that Korean people are taking more interest in their surroundings.
1. It seems over half of all buildings have been removed.

6. Excavators are how the vast majority of demolition is carried out.
7. Usually they just plant an excavator on a roof and it chews its way down.
8. When I saw this, I was shocked and needed to get closer (not too close). When a building is knocked down, you can't see the roof lying on the ground, because it's already been chewed up by the excavator.
9. This looks like a collapse.
10. Then we saw more and more buildings knocked down like this.
11. Falling over in slow motion.
12. I insisted we all keep our distance.
13. You'd probably believe me if I said this was in Nepal.
14. Timber!

16. Lots more to go, but shouldn't take more than a couple months.
17. Lotte Tower looms in the background.
