So Im being given a 1984 Pontiac bonneville VIN 2g2as69a4e2280853

from what I found its a 3.8 V6

are these cars worth anything or should I just scrap it?

well, it depends on what the condition of the car is and what you're going to do with it. From a purely historical point of view, it's really a nothing special sedan. But to some people, the fact that a RWD sedan has made it this long in one piece makes it a great donor car for a V8, as GM's, like Subarus, are like Legos in that respect.
If the body and frame are in good shape (primary trouble spots on the G-body are where the control arms mount to the frame and where the frame kicks over the rear axle), the car would make a decent project to stuff a V8 in. If I remember right, G-bodies had a cut out in the transmission tunnel for a floor shift and a hard point under the dashboard for a clutch pedal assembly.
To be honest, it would be a shame to scrap a RWD GM as there are so few left. If it's not your thing, sell it or at least find an interested party that will do something good with it. This was the last body to wear the Bonneville name and have RWD... after this car, in 87, they were FWD sitting on the H chassis.

I'll second what Samurai said. They are not anything particularly special or valuable. But they are becoming pretty scarce, especially in any area where road salt is used. The fact that it still exists is pretty cool and I'm sure someone out there would love to own it.

so learn.
GM is fun, economical and easy to go fast with, even a sedan.
That generation Bonneville is the same car as the Chevrolet Malibu.
you can put together a running 350 V8 for less than $500, couple it to a 4speed manual (sourced from a salvage yard for less than $200), find all the odds n ends to make it a manual shift for less than $200 and have a car that's fun to rip the tires with. There was a kid here that has a Bonneville wagon with a 350 in it... It's funny to see him running around at night with it. He's got an 82 Mustang GT hoodscoop on it with a Pontiac hood tach... the whole operative would be to have fun and not be an uber serious uber dork.

I'd take a donation at this point. Long story but I may be without wheels soon.

I dunno, I can see it. If you want to devote your time and money to something, you wanna do it to something you specialize in, rather than getting sidetracked.

Didn't you just get a new Subie?

If it runs and drives, its actually worth something to local Demo Derby drivers. Around me just finding an old boat car like that is easily worth $700+ even to those guys as there just arent many left. Most have rusted away by now.

Interested in a 2003 Beetle? It runs, but it needs work. Cheap!
