I did not know about that. I'm certain that it WAS enabled, so that would be an explanation. I just figured it wouldn't do anything if there was no motion.

If it still matters (though I figure it doesn't now), here's an example.

Anyone have experience with the factory one and generic ones? I'm only getting 10 ft with a generic compatible remote.

It depends on which generic you use. I have a lot of luck with them. I keep losing them...but hell, that's probably my fault. I've gotten anywhere from right next to it to up to about 30ft.

I do have to make sure I am on the correct side of my camera, though.

I almost exclusively use a remote, just to prevent shaking of any sort and the fact I primarily do long exposures.

Right now I am rocking a generic "Bowers" brand, but I fucking love it. It's the same brand as my fisheye and I am slowly falling in love with the price and quality I get with them.

Also if you haven't bought one already (I'm too lazy to read through) then looking on ebay isn't the worst way to go. I pay about $5 per remote and they've always been great. (I shoot with a Nikon D90)

It's branded ProMaster. No idea who makes it. I get about 6-8' of range. When I have it pointed perfectly straight into the sensor, I can get around 15 feet after 2-3 tries. The IR emitter on it is the size of a match head which is about the third the size of the LED on my TV remote.

I had a generic "Amazon special" one for my D3100 at first until the button broke, then any subsequent replacement I tried to get had an ill-fitting plug. I finally had to get a Nikon-branded one.
