Not the most creative, been done a million times, but how can you not do a double take every time you see one of these?! Enjoy, taken inside a flood tunnel with awesome graffiti.

Awesome. I've been meaning to try this. I just haven't really felt up to building the cage.

The times I've done it, i've kind of made a poor-mans still wool "spinner", used a kitchen whisk and tied a shoe string to the whisk. You'll probably ruin the risk after about 10 spins but it works.

This guy ruined his camera doing that. A glowing hot piece of steel wool etched into his $2,000 lens.

Use a filter or put the whole camera behind a sheet of glass if you don't want to ruin the lens.

Wow...a $2000 lens with no filter? Ive got a $250 lens and its got a filter. They cost $12 and although it can be a pain in the ass when I bring my camera out into 100% humidity from a 60 degree car, Im more than willing to wait the 5 minutes for both the lens AND the filter to warm up. Is there any disadvantage to having a filter on the lens?

Glad you guys enjoyed them. Here are a few more! These were shot with DSLR, obviously.

Also, regarding the cage, we used a whisk as well. Works really well! Just don't expect to put it back in the kitchen for the wife to use ;)

I liked your third pic in the second set; The kind of box around it looked cool.

I have the supplies now.. just need to go spin it and take pics very soon

My cage didn't work out. The slits were too course and wool flew out.

I love the second set! 3 and 4 have a great sense of depth that doesn't seem to happen a lot

Ok, my very first try. I did it where absolutely nothing can catch on fire.

I added my parameters here for those of you interested. I set up the camera with manual focus by pre-focusing on one of the pillars with a flashlight. The first two attempts, I used a fixed 30 second shutter but the steel wool didn't last the whole time so the background is fairly strong. The third attempt, I used a remote to terminate the exposure and I was a lot closer to the camera.

All at ISO 200 and F/4.0

Attempt 1: Fail (30 secs)

Attempt 2: (30 secs)

Attempt 3: (15.5 secs)

Not obvious at all. Mine weren't and I don't use DSLRs in general.
