this school is soon to be demo'd

hall after hall of lockers and ceiling tiles. endless graffiti. peeling paint till you vomit. but we all have seen that so i wont bother...

this was the real treat...

When I say I'm 'clean and sober', it means I've showered and I'm headed to the liquor store.

That was my favorite part of that school as well! Any idea on how it got like that? Do gymnasium floors tend to... do that?

Gyms with real wood floors tend to do that...

the lighting in this gym absolutely sucked....
Elly did a much better job with it. seen here is her work and her explanation for the condition of the floor.

"Floor buckles and warps in abandoned buildings are common, but usually are only a few inches tall. But each side of THIS gym has multiple massive warped waves, and some of them are over 3 FEET tall.

Scrappers cause more damage to vacant buildings than anything else.....normally you see drop ceilings and framing destroyed for wires and major roof leaks from missing flashing & caps, but in this case the massive floor warps started when the sump pump under this specially designed gym floor that sits over a natural spring was disabled.

The wood floors expand and contract due to the humidity. When the building was abandoned the temperature control ceased to prevent it from warping.

A whole lot of water for one... but in all my years doing architectural/construction work on historical buildings I've never seen it this bad - it's practically a small half pipe!

I once went to a place that had warping wood floors throughout and it was a real treat, especially since they were completely sound and could be walked on. Reminds me a lot of this place. Wood warps are sweet!

This has now become the "Warped floor" thread. Enjoy, CDevon!

Sadly I have nothing to contribute. I've never seen floors this bad.

My first thought was that it was a half pipe. Hope nobody with a skateboard handy had that idea as well.
