I only have a couple of decks (two kitchen table and 2 EDH). Refuse to play modern, standard, etc because of the cost involved. I could see spending hundreds, if not thousands, to make the perfect deck. Fuck that. I just want to have fun occasionally with friends without breaking the bank.

Anyone else play?

I tried starting many years ago (1998?) but gave it up. It seems to reward throwing gobs of money at it. For what it's worth, I still play the Pokemon card game, but just with my son and his friends. One other card game I LOVE is Munchkin.

You're not wrong at all. The idea of basically throwing away my deck every couple of months because the cards it contains rotates out of cycle (modern/standard) is sickening. Competitive vintage/legacy decks can run thousands of dollars (couple hundred bucks, or more, for ONE CARD...no joke) so fuck all that. Even competitive commander decks can be prohibitively expensive. Still a fun game to play, so I just play with similar budget minded friends that don't have hundreds/thousands of dollars to throw at a card game.

That being said, the costs can sneak up on you really quickly. $0.50 here, $2 there, next thing you know you've spent $200 on a stack of cards.

At least the art is cool...lol
