Hello, I'm new here and was wondering about the Lawrence attic.

I heard a rumor from a guy I know that you can't get to the attic anymore. He's not sure why, its just what he was told.

I recently discovered urban exploring. So far I have only explored drains but after hearing about Lawrence attic I am just too curious to pass it up. Every day I get off at Lawrence for work and have seen the balcony on my way to the escalator. I plan on checking it out in a couple of weeks but I would like to hear from some experienced people what I may encounter on the way.

Any tips and suggestions are more than welcome. Oh and approximately where can I find the vent shaft that goes down to the balcony?

One more thing. What time and day would be ideal? What are the security measures I should take or are taken by the TTC to prevent such explorations? What should I do if security finds me?

I wouldn't be suprised if someone finally got around to putting a lock on the gate.

I've actually done quite a bit of research on that exact place myself, scouted it out a few times, but I haven't yet made it to the attic, anyways, from what I've learned:

Go either right after subway service ends, (Very few trains to avoid then, but you gotta avoid being seen even on the platform since employees will know that people shouldn't be there then), or just wait until there is no one else on the platform (not rush-hour), and there are no trains coming soon, and go for it.

In terms of the day, choose one where you don't think there will be many people (weekends, day after a holiday, etc...)

Security wise, watch out for cameras and motion sensors, and definitely make sure you won't encounter a train in the tunnels.

If security finds you, I think your best bet is showing them your camera, and just being honest (you're a photographer, not planning to tag the place, etc.) Although you will probably get trespassing regardless.

Remember to constantly be wary of the 3rd rail, and make absolute sure that you aren't going at the same time a train is coming.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought you could walk along the worker's ledge thing. The small walkway with the metal gate that warns people not to enter.

Also, how far along the tracks until you make it to the staircase?

That is correct, just a general reminder though since even if you're out of harms way on the ledge, you may at some point want to check out elsewhere in the tunnel that means crossing tracks.

Alas, that walkway extends only a few feet into the tunnel. From there on in, it's more like a ledge - you're off the rails, but it's dark and easy to trip.

As for time, I like early in the morning, just after the first few trains (or even before the first train!) - they only run every 5-6 minutes at that time, and you can then safely exit back into the station without risking getting written up for being somewhere that's public 19 hours out of the day anyways!

Have you tried it? What's the barrier to entry? Is it locked with a padlock, door, etc?

The stairwell that provides access, which used to be completely open, is now fully enclosed by concrete block walls with a solid metal door that allows access to the stairs. If the door is closed, there is no way to access the stairs.

Not once in all my years commuting past it have I seen that door open.
