Arsenal FC Tower

Hey guys! This is my first post to this forum. I’m currently living in Etobicoke, Ontario, and I’ve been seeing some of the nearby sights. One of the best places I’ve been to so far was the old tower on the old Arsenal FC range just off Marie Curtis park. It’s really easy to get to; all the fences that need to be bypassed all have convenient gaps. The tower itself seems to be relatively solid (I’m also very light), so I climbed up the girders at the base and to the ladder that got me the rest of the way up. It’s a very long climb. Not recommended for anyone uncomfortable with heights. I’m not sure how high the tower is, but it’s definitely sever times higher than it needs to be for a fall to be fatal. That said, there is a ladder going all the way up, so it’s hard to mess up. There are three places on the tower where you can get off the ladder. The first is a platform just under the drum, the second is a wraparound platform about halfway up. After this last, the ladder bends up to the top of the drum where there is a hole in the top of the drum with a second ladder going down into the drum. the inside is really interesting. It is pitch black with a ton of natural reverb. There’s quite a few mostly intact bird skeletons as well. The floor of the drum seemed very rusted, so I tried to stay on the ladder as much as I could.

I have pictures posted in the link below. Sorry about the poor lighting. Photography is far from my strong suit.

Definitely check this place out if you like heights!

That's a pretty sweet find. You might wanna try to take some steadier pictures or invest in a small point n shoot if you're gonna exploring often.

I wish I knew how high the tower was.

Good thread. Too bad the buildings have been razed. I hate that.
You determine the height of the sections and multiply that by the number of them. Be wary of climbing unknown old structures in the dark. A lot rude surprises can be lurking. 3 points of contact, always.

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

Here's a picture I found on google images, and the related article.

Thanks for your comments, guys

Edit: After actually reading the article, I'm psyched to check this place out more, especially the arms inspection facility.

The building on the property is good, albeit a little tricky to get inside.

That water tower is sketchy as fuck! I've contemplated it several times but never worked up the nerve to go up. I love climbing cranes and am not afraid of heights, but it just looks wwaaaayyyyy too rusted and precarious, for me anyway.

Also, I can arrange for access to the small arms building sometime if you wanted to get inside. It's locked and alarmed and in the process of (hopefully) being converted into a community space for the arts. Attempts to actually do that have been setback immeasurably due to vandalism and water damage from smashed windows.

I've been up to the water tank, but not on top of it, and although the ladder up to there is ok, after that it seems really sketchy (although I'm thinking I'll climb all the way up on a return trip anyways).
I went to the small arms building last year, as well as a few months ago, and it seems that the security is new (second time there, I had to leave because of a motion sensor I hadn't noticed before), I take it they're upping security now that work is starting?
