Posted by Aran I personally carry a fennix pd36 rechargeable flashlight as my main. Sure, it's on the pricey end ($70 or so) so I have to be careful not to lose it, but with five different brightness settings and a max output of 3000 lumens I really like it. It helps that the rechargeable batteries are cheap so I have five different batteries to swap through in my pack. For a backup I usually carry some throwaway sub- $10 flashlight or a headlamp depending what I'm doing, sometimes both if its a lot of underground. I've never regretted going underground with three redundant light sources and backup batteries for each, though I've sure regretted going underground without it before.

What kind of rechargeable batteries do your flashlights take?

When I explore storm drains I always bring at least 2 headlamps that take 18650 rechargeable lithium batteries and at least 2 nice flashlights for backup plus a shit ton of 18650 rechargeable batteries because I have a serious OCD with running out of light and I spend quite a bit of time in the tunnels (LOL). For those of you who don't know but I do a lot of night activities like walking, exploring and dumpster diving but as I said I prefer to be out at night because I love that more than being out during the day due to a lot of people being out everywhere. I also like to bring a lot of flashlights into storm drains so I can take pictures of the drain tunnels with a lot of flashlights placed in random spots to create light effects. Does anyone on UER create light effects in tunnels, then take pictures of it (drains, sewers, caves ETC)? In the future I plan to post some pictures on UER so everyone can see what I'm talking about.
