Hey guys!

So I've always seen photos of people on top of buildings with their legs hanging off which personally I find to be one of the coolest places to explore (I love views). Now I'm not necessarily a rookie when it comes to exploring places on the ground. Finding my way in, making sure its safe, not being seen and what not but I have no idea how I would go about getting to the top of large building. How would you go about choosing one to climb/equipment to use? Things to watch out for when doing it?

I would love for this to be my next step in urban exploring I just need to know how to go about it . Any tips guys?

When you get back down, make sure not to do it too quickly.

The whole legs-hanging-off thing (irritatingly nicknamed next-level lookdowns) is kind of a trend that's had its day. It can probably still make a good picture, if you consider it worth it. Coincidentally, right as I was writing this response, I was given an article to read about a man was killed when a suicidal jumper landed on him, just steps in front of his pregnant wife and young son.

Anyway, it might help if you give a better sense of your region, as roof access differs whether you're in New York or Fargo, Hong Kong or Tokyo. For the most part, not a lot of guidance is needed, as all you have to do is get into a building and find a way up to the roof. In construction sites this means climbing a lot of stairs, but most of the roofs I visit I take the elevator most of the way up and find an unlocked door.

Getting in is half the trick, most of the time.

Once inside... go up. Sometimes roof access is locked and you have to deal with that (by discreet bypass or moving on to the next stairwell/site) but sometimes the door is open and the roof is yours.

Don't over-think it, don't break anything, try not to get caught.

For sure, some roof accesses are trickier/stupider than others, you just have to get in and go up and check out what you're dealing with when you get there.

Keep what you do survivable both physically and legally.
Do it enough eventually you will get 'caught'.
Climbing gear? That will be real hard to explain to a pissed off cop...
or judge.

Exactly.
This isn't rocket science.
The more complicated you make it, the more that can go wrong.
When shit goes bad it tends to go real wrong fast.
Some places are best left be; know when to abort a mission or a climb.
