He's right about the X-plates not being able to cross into the US...

The reason WHY is that unlike say a dealer plate in the rest of Canada or the US, Quebec treats them more like a trip permit and can be only searched by law enforcement internally in Quebec...

As for his choice of brakes...well, for that price, I better have air brakes...

I was curious, so i gave the SAAQ a call, they said X plates are valid outside quebec, but transits are not. They did say that there have been hassles with US customs with X plates though. Especially since the new series of regular plates can start with an X as well

Apparently they banned X plates from Canadian rally events as well, which I imagine will decrease entries even more. That sport is very, very close to becoming extinct for many reasons here. It's sad.

lol calling the saaq, do you enjoy waiting?

crossing the border with an x plate is a hassle, but you can drive with one in the states.

I haven't been to Canada since November of 2006. And that saddens me.

my neighbor has one of those new series of regular plates... and has the misfortune of having X as the first digit, customs always asks if its a dealer plate

Interesting...my information is from 7 years ago so I reached out to US CBP and found out this:

All vehicles being driven into the US must have valid vehicle ownership and registration current. The problem that initially occurred with the Quebec X dealer plates was that initially, they were not showing up in the vehicle registration interchange system as Quebec didn't expect dealers to drive those cars to the US, so initially, they were denied for entry as well, they were showing up as invalid plates but that was fixed once SAAQ allowed those plates to show up for interchange.

But then a new problem popped up. In Quebec, there was some car dealers that were taking cars off the lot, slapping X-plates on, driving the car over the border, trading the car with New York or Vermont car dealer, switching plates, then driving back across the border into Canada. The problem was that most of these vehicles were subject to taxes and duty in the US or Canada; so US CBP now scrutinizes those drivers with cars with dealer X-plates.

Hmm.....I know dealer plates are not permitted with Rally America; but the vehicle can have manufacturer or transporter plates...

Had a recall done on my Cruze today... For a couple of months now, I have had an electrical gremlin plaguing my car. Come to find out it was the negative wire off the battery. There was a bulletin on it.

It was a weird weird behavior.

I bought an 05 Ranger FXII extended cab for my nephew last fall... it has been recalled. They already did the passenger side airbag and just got the drivers' side in a couple of weeks ago. Been procrastinating putting off making the appointment. Just put $600 into the truck for new brakes, rotors, calipers, brake hoses, rear brakes, drums, spring kit, axle seals, rear spring shackles, wipers, and oil change. Still have to call and have the windshield changed. Luckily, it's insured so it won't cost me anything.
My dad and brother actually sprung for the parts for the truck, which was kind of funny in a peculiar sort of way.
