An insight on the Meaning and Thoughts of the Average Urban Explorer (AKA John "Rooftop" D. Rain)

Forum threads that give an insight on the psychology and philosophy of Urban Exploring.
Anyone else with links that might apply, react or PM.

And no, I won't put links on the flamewarred ethics of UrbEx here.

Okay, one then.

Or as j0lt put it:

Fear of the dark, fear of the dark
I have a constant fear that something's always near
Fear of the dark, fear of the dark
I have a phobia that someone's always there

[21:51:44] <Dages> I'm turning in a photo essay for a college app.. and i'm trying to describe urban exploration

[21:52:00] <IIVQ> "recreational trespassing"

[21:59:05] <IIVQ>
I am an urban explorer.
I explore places made by people, but they forgot about.
Abandoned factories, overgrown cemetaries, underground drains and trashed back alleys.

[22:05:53] <Dages>
I am an Explorer.

I explore what most people see, but do not recognize, or understand, something most of humanity would rather ignore. I see something different, I see history.
Every abandoned building has a pulse. A leaking roof is a drum beat, wind howling through a broken window is a voice. Where most people see chaos and destruction, I see peace.
Over a long period of time, nature and technology merge. Plants begin to sprout from cement, vines take over exterior walls, tree branches escape through window frames.
Buildings, corridors, drains, back alleys, they all have history. Every abandonment has a story waiting to be told. As an urban explorer I search for that story.
People ask me "Isn't that dangerous?, Is that Illegal?, Are you crazy?" I do not regard urban exploration as a crime. As with all urban explorers, I observe the cardinal rule "Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints." If curiosity is a crime, put me in jail.
This is what I love. This is what I am. I am an urban explorer.
